Biography

I am Erin Walsh, a proud resident of Buffalo since 1987.  I raised three kids here, all of whom graduated from Buffalo High School and have now made their way out into the world.  I live near downtown Buffalo, in an 1886 home overlooking Buffalo Lake which I have enjoyed renovating over the years with the assistance of talented electricians, plumbers and contractors from Buffalo.

I hold a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a double major in Climatology and Cartography.  My first post-college job was with the Department of Defense in mapping.  After time at home with my young kids, I returned to graduate school at the University of St. Thomas to get a teaching license in K-12 Classroom and Instrumental Music, and then taught at Montrose Elementary School, leading the Bravo Strings program.  Other employment over the years has included: retail shop clerk in downtown Buffalo, writer for the Wright County Journal-Press, Community Ed Instructor, Theatre Director and Choreographer, Orchestra General Manager, and Private Music Instructor.  I am a member of several bands in Minneapolis, performing acoustic Nordic and traditional music.

In Buffalo, I am a founding member of Buffalo Community Theater and Buffalo Community Orchestra.   In 2021, I joined with others to form a non-profit organization called Buffalo Community and Arts Center.  Our goal is to advocate for an improved Community Center (to be relocated to the former PenRad building) and for the creation of an arts and entertainment center in downtown Buffalo.

Having lived in cookie-cutter suburbs and crowded urban areas in my past, I feel most at home in Buffalo, which I think of as the “little city that has it all”.  But cities of any size need to be maintained with diligent work, careful planning, and thoughtful communications.  I hope to embody these as I serve on the Buffalo City Council.
