Thank you to the Minnesota Senate Capital Investment Committee for visiting Buffalo on their bonding tour that took place on Jaunary 18, 2023. The City of Buffalo and Pulaski Lake Improvement District explained why we are seeking state bonding funds for the Lake Pulaski Water Filtration System.
During high water levels, water is pumped from Lake Pulaski into nearby Buffalo Lake. Lake Pulaski has no natural outlet, so the pumps are necessary to prevent the flooding of homes and utility infrastructure. In
2022, invasive zebra mussels were identified in Lake Pulaski, suspending pumping operations until they could occur without the transport of zebra mussels per State Statute requirements. The project will allow normal pumping to resume, ensuring homes, utility infrastructure, shoreline and recreation opportunities are protected.
