8/16/23 Update:
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has reviewed water test results from Buffalo Lake after the recent discharge of sanitary and storm water into the lake. The test results have allowed the City of Buffalo to reopen fishing and swimming on Buffalo Lake by Sturges Park.
The City has been in discussions, with the Hwy 25 construction contractor, reviewing the event, and the contractor has
implemented changes to ensure this type of event will be prevented for future rain events.
Public Notice!
Due to the heavy rains the construction site along Hwy 25 discharged sanitary and storm sewer water into Buffalo Lake. Currently, we have closed Sturges Park beach area, and all fishing in that area.
What's Next?
City staff will be sampling water and confirming when it will be safe to swim and fish again. At that time, the beach closed signs will be removed. Other parts of the lake beyond the construction area along Hwy 25 and beyond the Sturges Park area are safe to use.
