City Center Summer Hours

City Center Summer Hours Spotlight

Reduced Traffic on Fridays at City Center

Over the course of the past year, city leadership has discussed and studied the possibility of designated summer hours for City Center. Among other considerations, staff looked at traffic counts during a consecutive, ten (10) week period beginning May 30, 2022. City Administrator, Taylor Gronau presented a study which shows average per hour and per day traffic at City Center.

In addition to the traffic counts, staff looked at comparison cities’ hours. There was a wide range of results, but it was common to see hours that included longer hours Monday through Thursday and reduced hours on Friday. A survey of the cities used in the comparison was presented to City Council.

City Council approved the following summer hours, beginning the day after Memorial Day and ending Labor Day at the March 20, 2023, City Council meeting.

Monday - Thursday

7:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Friday

7:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Current City Center hours are Monday through Friday:  8:00 AM – 4:30PM.

Leadership believes this schedule will result in a higher level of service as well as a better work/life balance for City Center staff. The earlier start allows residents, utility customers, and contractors the opportunity to complete their city-related tasks (e.g., building permit, pay utility bill, etc.) prior to starting their commute and/or workday. Additionally, City Center staff will enjoy an earlier start to their weekends.
