Railroad Crossing Safety

·       Always expect a train.

o       Trains don’t follow regular schedules.

o       Trains may be coming from both directions in crossings with multiple tracks.

·       Trains may appear further away or slower than they are.

·       If you race a train and tie, you lose!

·       Trains can take up to a mile to stop!

·       Never drive around lowering gates; it’s illegal and may cost you your life!

·       Never stop on the tracks

o   Make sure there’s enough room behind the vehicle in front of you to get all the way across before you drive onto the tracks

o   If your vehicle stalls on the tracks and you cannot get it restarted, get out and call 911
