Steve Downer is the associate executive director of the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association. He has worked closely with the League of Minnesota Cities, other municipal organizations, state agencies and policymakers for nearly 22 years. He is a member of the Blandin Foundation's Broadband Strategy Board and recently participated as an alternate municipal representative on the Governor's Ultra High-Speed Broadband Task Force. He is chair of the Salvation Army's HeatShare advisory board. Downer has been married to Lisa for 28 years. She is a teacher in the Delano schools. Together, the couple has four children. Paul, 26, is married and editor of the Norwood Young-America Times. Michael, 26, is working at a financial management firm and coaching hockey in Anchorage, Alaska. Brian, 24, is married and a U.S. Marine. Nina, 18, is a Buffalo high school student. Downer is past president of the Buffalo high school hockey booster club; past Buffalo Youth Hockey Association officer; baseball, hockey and softball coach; active member of the Buffalo Evangelical Free Church; Wright County jail volunteer; and a Parks Advisory Board member prior to his election. He recently earned his Certified Association Executive certification. He and Lisa are both graduates of Winona State University. |
